This coastal town is indicated on most maps as St Martinho, but signposted as Porta Bilene. The tourist resort at Porta Bilene is located on a lagoon and not the open ocean. There are a number of good restaurants in Porta Bilene and most serve good local cuisine at reasonable prices, which tend to go up as soon as the tourists arrive in any numbers. Petrol and diesel are available. Should you need to refuel, turn left after passing under the A-frame arch and drive for half a kilometre where you will find the fuel station on the right. To get to the open sea there is a drive to the lagoon mouth (it is cut off from the sea by a huge sand bank) which is thick sand. |
