The small town of Chizavane lies approximately 44km north of the city Xai-Xai on the main road to Inhambane. The turn-off to the resort is found +/- 1km on the other side of this town, from where it is about 10km to this hidden gem. This small resort has been designed and built to blend in with the environment and changes to it have been minimal. The resort consists of wooden chalets, a Guest House (with air conditioning), a campsite, overnight accommodation, a Restaurant and a general shop.
All the chalets are designed so that almost every bedroom has a sea view. The chalets are fully equipped, including fridges/freezers, have warm water and 24 hour electricity. All chalets have their own barbecue/braai facilities and families can enjoy a wonderful time together overlooking the sea. The campsite has thatched barracas and are equipped with
beds and mattresses only.
WHAT TO DO Fishing Charters: For all the fishing lovers, deep sea fishing charters is available at the resort. All equipment is supplied for both trawling or bottom fishing as well as some snacks and cold drinks. Rock and Surf, Fly and Drop Shot Fishing: A long reef in front of the lodge provides excellent fishing spots. All types of fishing can be done from these spots and a variety of species are available. Swimming: Like mentioned before, there is a reef that runs along the coast. This reef opens up with low tide and provides a safe swimming area, especially for small children.
Whale Watching/Sea Turtles: During the months from end of July to end of October the Whales can be seen in front of the lodge. It is quite an experience to see the whales coming as close as 100m from the shore. During the months of December to February Sea-Turtles come out to lay their eggs. Restaurant: Not in the mood for cooking? Enjoy a seafood platter or any other dish on the menu at Tartarugas, the resort's own restaurant. The staff will make sure that it is an experience that you won't forget. Meals can be enjoyed on the verandah or inside this beautiful restaurant. Surfing: The Mozambican coast is mostly not suitable for surfing due to coral reefs long the shore.
Photography: Mozambique has alot of pre-war land marks which is any photographer's dream. PLEASE NOTE however not to take any pictures of government buildings, banks or military equipment or buildings as this might end your trip in a real bad experience.
